Victory for Life and Women’s Health in California

As LLDF reported last month, AB 926 was passed by the California legislature. The bill would have allowed payment to women for the harvesting of their eggs for research purposes. On August 13, 2013, Governor Brown issued a veto statement in which he reminded the Legislature, “Not everything in life is for sale, nor should it be.”

Thank you to each of you who took the time to contact Governor Brown to urge this result. LLDF and other pro-life groups continue to monitor the status of this bill should an override be attempted. As Dana Cody, LLDF’s Executive Director stated, “California has a long history of making wrong decisions with respect to human-subject research (such as the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine), but we applaud Governor Brown for making the right decision on AB 926.”
