U.S. House Passes 20-Week Abortion Ban

In a vote on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” (HR 1797) by a vote of 228-196. Six Democrats voted in favor, and six Republicans voted against the bill. Thank you to everyone who contacted your member of Congress to support this historic legislation.

It is unclear whether the Act will be given a vote in the Senate, and President Obama has issued a veto threat should the legislation pass both houses of Congress. However, as Dana Cody, LLDF’s President points out, “The debate on this bill has been vigorous and has forced the Nation to face up to the reality of the pain experienced by the unborn. We’ve opened up an essential dialog, one that pro-life advocates will continue to pursue in every way possible.”
