In light of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s refusal to allow churches to reopen, I created a short video to talk about when it is appropriate to consider civil disobedience. I also talk about Newsom’s true agenda in keeping our state locked down—and why it is a threat to LIFE.
As I point out, this doesn’t mean everyone should rush out and disobey their state’s shelter at home order. But it does mean we need to weigh carefully at what point a law becomes unjust and therefore invalid. As St. Augustine said, “An unjust law is no law at all.” St. Thomas Aquinas defined a just law as one that is grounded in reason, not on the will of the lawmaker.
Life Legal has been pushing back against stay at home orders that are being used to shut down constitutionally-protected speech outside of abortion mills. And we have been successful!
I live in a county of 1.5 million people. We have had 1200 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Over a thousand of those have recovered. Tragically, we have had 56 deaths. The numbers haven’t changed much in the past month, but we are still mostly shut down. We are not permitted to assemble in groups of any size. And churches are still closed, as they are throughout California.
Target is open. Walmart is open. Marijuana dispensaries and liquor stores are open. Even some casinos in California are now open. But churches are still CLOSED.
Is this rational?
In the video, I also briefly raise the issue of a compulsory coronavirus vaccine, as all of the vaccines currently in clinical trials are derived from the cells of aborted babies. If you have ethical concerns with a forced vaccine that is made from aborted baby cells, please let us know.
