I’m writing to you with an urgent request to ask your Senators to VOTE NO on the nomination of Xavier Becerra for the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Senate is expected to vote on his nomination this week.
According to the HHS website, “The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.”
Life Legal worked with the previous Secretary of HHS to accomplish big things for the youngest and most vulnerable Americans. For example, we filed civil rights complaints on behalf of six families whose premature babies were denied life-saving medical treatment. Together with these complaints, we submitted a brief informing HHS of the medical advancements that now allow these very young children to survive. We asked HHS to act on this information by issuing clear regulations or guidance for medical professionals and facilities who care for very premature babies.
The result of this interaction was Executive Order 13952. This Order requires hospitals and clinics to provide medical treatment to all viable babies born alive—including babies born during an abortion.
Life-affirming appointees make a difference!
Unfortunately, Xavier Becerra has proven over the course of his career that he refuses to fight for the most vulnerable, including children in the womb.
Instead, he has targeted pro-life advocates for selective punishment. He sued to force religious orders like the Little Sisters of the Poor to provide insurance coverage for abortifacients and contraceptive drugs and devices, which violates their deeply held beliefs. He forced pro-life pregnancy resource centers to refer their clients for abortions. He filed bogus criminal charges against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt for their role in exposing Planned Parenthood’s illegal and unethical trade in aborted baby body parts.
It is clear that Xavier Becerra cannot fulfill the mission of HHS and his confirmation needs to be stopped.

I’m contacting you as your constituent to urge you to VOTE NO on the confirmation of Xavier Becerra as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Attorney General Becerra does not possess the requisite qualifications to lead an agency whose mission is to protect the health of all Americans. He is a career politician, lacking any medical or science background, with a track record of using his public office to pursue extreme, polarizing policies. As Attorney General of California, Becerra discriminated against the deeply held religious views of individuals and organizations concerning health care, including the Little Sisters of the Poor. During his confirmation hearing for California Attorney General, he stated that only individuals, not organizations, enjoy the religious freedom protections of the First Amendment. This position, contrary to federal law and Supreme Court precedent, directly threatens the role of religious institutions in providing health care.
For these reasons, I respectfully request that you VOTE NO on the confirmation of Xavier Becerra.
