US House Votes to Protect Against Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

Tuesday, January 28, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act” by a vote of 227-188.

The bill addresses serious concerns about taxpayer money going to subsidize healthcare plans that cover abortion. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has resulted in confusion and lack of full disclosure with regard to what health care coverage includes abortion, and what does not. H.R. 7 addressees those concerns. Further, the bill makes technical corrections to eliminate the accounting gimmicks and secrecy clauses in Obamacare.  Additionally, conforming language is included to ensure that no multi-state plan includes elective abortion. This is the second time the House has passed legislation of this type in three years.

“We applaud the House for passing this important legislation,” stated Dana Cody, LLDF’s President and Executive Director. “Taxpayers should not be forced to knowingly or unknowingly fund the heinous crime of abortion.”
