Life Legal Helps Huntsville, AL Become Abortion Free!

The Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives in Huntsville, Alabama is shutting its doors on June 30, 2014. The abortion clinic will surrender its license rather than face a revocation hearing with the Alabama Department of Public Health.   The clinic would need significant modifications to comply with the Women’s Health and Safety Act that goes into effect July 1, 2014.

The clinic hopes to move to a new location on Sparkman Drive in Huntsville, but has been unsuccessful in obtaining the proper permits and licenses thus far.   The proposed location is right down the street from an elementary school and middle school. Additionally, it is uncertain whether the owner would need to obtain a new variance from the zoning commission to operate an abortion clinic at the location.

The Life Legal Defense Foundation reported on the controversy of the anticipated move last week. LLDF attorney, Allison Aranda is working with local pro-life activists to put this matter on the agenda for the July Board of Zoning Adjustment Meeting. “Just as we did with New Woman, All Women in Birmingham, we will continue to assist local pro-life citizens with any legal matters. We want to see abortion clinics continue to shut down,” states Dana Cody, Executive Director of LLDF.

The Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives has even more obstacles to face if they intend to reopen. Now that they have surrendered their abortion license, the clinic will need to reapply for a new license if it intends to reopen at a new location. And, these are not the type of people to whom the ADPH should be issuing a license to perform any medical procedures. The clinic’s medical director, abortionist Ramon Lopez, has been serving weekend jail time for the past six months related to his previous criminal convictions. Abortionist Yashica Robinson-White, who also performs abortions at the Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives, was recently indicted on Medicaid fraud and selling birth control devices made in another country. Both abortionists are on the verge of losing their licenses to practice medicine altogether.

LLDF will continue to uncover the mishaps and back deals of those involved with the Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives. We will vigorously oppose any attempt to reopen this abortion clinic. We join with the citizens of Huntsville to commemorate the loss of more than 30,000 lives from abortions in Huntsville. We rejoice, that as of July 1, 2014, Huntsville is now abortion free.
