H.R. 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” authored by Pro-life Caucus Co-Chairs Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), is expected to be considered by the House of Representatives next week.
You may wish to contact your Member of Congress to urge a YES vote on H.R. 3 and NO on all hostile amendments.
222 Members of Congress (including Smith and Lipinski) have cosponsored H.R. 3. Additional cosponsors can be added until the close of legislative business on Thursday, April 7. Lists of current cosponsors and a list of Members who have not cosponsored H.R. 3 can be found below. You may also want to encourage your Member of Congress to cosponsor H.R. 3.
H.R. 1363 was introduced by House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers on April 4, 2011. H.R. 1363 is a one week Continuing Resolution (CR), to continue funding the government through April 15, 2011. The CR also includes a provision preventing both federal and local funds from being used to provide abortions in the District of Columbia.
The legislative text reinstating the D.C. Hyde amendment (Dornan amendment) can be found in Section 359 on page 182 of H.R. 1363. This language would restore the Dornan amendment to ensure that no congressionally appropriated funds (whether locally or federally generated) may pay for abortion in the District of Columbia.
Life Legal congratulates the pro-life members of Congress for their continued efforts to defund abortion!
