Creating a Legacy

Estate planning involves the process of incorporating your personal goals into a plan for building up and protecting your assets.

Planned giving presents you with a valuable opportunity. It gives you a chance to leave a legacy of protecting the most vulnerable, especially unborn children, against the threat of death.

Benefits of Planned Giving

Planned giving allows you to:

  • Further the work of Life Legal
  • Receive estate tax deductions
  • Choose which types of assets to give
  • Minimize tax burdens
  • Control your assets during your lifetime

You can give a legacy gift to Life Legal through your will or living trust, however there are advantages to a revocable living trust.

The Revocable Living Trust

As an estate-planning tool, the revocable living trust provides for convenient management of assets without court supervision. How will a revocable living trust protect you?

• It will protect your assets from probate court when you pass on. Having only a will won’t prevent this.
• It will protect you in the event of incapacity by avoiding court guardianship.
• It can be amended or revoked until an individual becomes incapacitated or deceased.

Many ask: What’s the difference between a revocable living trust and a will?

A will functions as a statement of one’s wishes for estate assets. It does not avoid probate or guardianship but instructs the court on how assets ought to be distributed. In many states, a will is beneficial, especially to name guardians of minor children, but it does not replace a revocable living trust.

Sample Language

To make a general gift to Life Legal in your will or living trust, you can include the following language:

You may also donate stock, a percentage of your estate, or real property.
