Alabama Files Suit to Stop Abortion Clinic Operating Illegally without License

The Alabama Department of Public Health (DPH)  filed a civil complaint on Tuesday in Jefferson County Circuit court seeking to stop the operation of the unlicensed abortion clinic in Birmingham. Due to undercover investigations by pro-life activists, the clinic, New Women All Women Health Care, was recently discovered to be in operation despite having been shut down last spring.

Following pressure by pro-life groups, the state announced last week it was investigating allegations the clinic was performing abortions without a license. A week later, DPH filed suit. According to DPH’s complaint, New Woman All Women Health Care does not have a license, yet it is offering abortions provided by Dr. Bruce Norman. The clinic “is holding itself as an abortion provider through advertising and offering abortion services to the public without a license.”

“We rejoice that the Alabama Department of Public Heath is doing the right thing to protect women and children from the dangerous practices of this clinic,” states Dana Cody, President and Executive Director of Life Legal Defense Foundation. “The filing of this complaint represents a good first step to getting this clinic permanently closed. LLDF will continue to do all in our power to see that abortionists are held accountable to the law.”
