Military Treatment Centers

On Thursday, December 9, the Senate reconsidered a motion to proceed with the FY2011 National Defense Authorization Act. The motion failed 57 to 40. You will remember from an earlier Life Legal email that the Senate bill still contains an amendment offered by Senator Roland Burris (D-IL) to strike Section 1093(b) of Title 10 of the US Code. By striking this section of current law, the amendment would permit the performance of abortions in both domestic and overseas military facilities. You will also recall that on September 21, 2010, the Senate voted on the measure and it failed 56 to 43. The letter Rep. Gene Taylor (D-MS) and Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), along with 178 of their pro-life colleagues, sent on July 14, 2010 to Senate and House leadership which urges them to reject the Burris amendment is available as a PDF file.
